What is the European Accessibility Act (EAA)?

The European Accessibility Act (EAA) is an EU directive aimed at improving the accessibility of products and services across the European Union.
Its goal is to ensure that people with disabilities, the elderly, and anyone facing accessibility barriers can use digital products and services independently and equally.

The Act applies to a wide range of sectors, including digital devices, payment terminals, banking services, and retail environments.

Why are we supporting EAA in our SoftPOS solution?

As our SoftPOS solution is used for accepting payments on smartphones and tablets, it falls under the scope of the EAA. By supporting accessibility in our solution, we aim to:

  • Ensure inclusive access, allowing consumers with disabilities to use our solution confidently.
  • Provide a better user experience for everyone, including people who are visually impaired, have limited mobility, or experience other accessibility challenges.
  • Demonstrate our commitment to social responsibility and digital inclusion.

This means we actively design and test our SoftPOS app to support screen readers, proper color contrast, clear navigation, and other accessibility best practices.

How EAA is embedded in the CCV SoftPOS solution

Via an extra “Settings” control in the CCV SoftPOS Application you get a list of the available functionalities.

Available functionalities

Color Mode

You get the option between light mode and dark mode.

Maximize brightness

When active, the brightness of the device is set to its maximum.

Larger text size

When selected, all texts and buttons will be made larger.

Spoken text

When activated, texts and visuals that are important are read out.

Extra information

  • When spoken text is enabled this is confirmed via voice command.
  • The spoken text is interrupted when the user performs an action.
  • After 20 seconds of inactivity, the text is repeated on the relevant screen.

Blind Mode

When activated, texts and visuals that are important are read out.

How to activate blind mode?

  • Via the Accessibility setting in the CCV SoftPOS Application.
  • Double tap or long press in middle section of screen.

How buttons work in blind mode
When blind mode is enabled, buttons are not allowed to perform their action directly once tapped.
When the user taps or drags on the button, it is said out loud that the user is on a button and what its function is and if the user wants to activate the button he/she needs to double tap the screen.
If the user then double taps the screen, the button’s action is executed and this is also confirmed out loud.

Accessible PIN pad functionality is set to follow soon.
